What we do
We’re passionate about collaborative giving – we want to make it easy for anyone to pool money as a group and give to those in need around them, so that we can take care of our communities together.
The Common Change platform provides a way for groups to easily donate to a pool anonymously and for anyone in the group to request funds for needs in their community. Groups then discuss the request and vote on the app or web. If the request passes the group vote, our team sorts out the admin and pays out the funds to meet the need. You can always see how much is in your group fund and the funds are fully in your group’s control.
Through this simple, empowering, and transparent process we want to help encourage a more generous society and eliminate economic isolation.

Why we do it
Few people in the world experience the big discrepancies between the haves and the have nots than those of us that call South Africa home. Our history has left a deep and complicated web of inequality and injustice that continues to leave many individuals and communities at large without basic needs met.
Despite close to 400 000 NPO’s and NGO’s operating within our borders, many individuals continue to feel disempowered to respond to the individual needs that arise within arms reach. We want to help empower all of us to give to individuals or small families with the wisdom, accountability, and financial backing of a group on the Common Change platform. We would love to help move resources more directly to people who need them, with as few degrees of separation as possible in order to eliminate personal economic isolation through a commitment to longevity and proactive giving.
